Top co-educational school
Brighton College has recently been ranked by The Sunday Times as third in the UK for our academic results. This success in their 2020 Parent Power League Table, the benchmark for academic excellence in the UK and released in November each year, is the highest result ever for any co-educational school.
In this year’s GCSEs 9 was once again the most common grade at Brighton, with 96% of all grades at 9-7/A*-A. At A-level an outstanding 99% of grades were at A*-B level.
Sports
Much-anticipated new building, The School of Science and Sport, was officially opened to pupils and
staff of the ‘revolutionary’ School of Science and Sport adheres to Brighton’s ethos that buildings
should inspire pupils, making them excited to learn. The building boasts 18 university standard
laboratories, a 25-metre swimming pool, an indoor and rooftop running track (with sea views),
basketball court and dance studio, a double-height sports hall, greenhouse, cinema, breakout
spaces, fitness suite and aerobics studio.
All pupils are assigned to a House, each of which has a Housemaster or Housemistress. Each House has a common room for relaxing, and a team of tutors who act as day-to-day points of contact.
There are no social hierarchies in Houses: all forms mix together, and older pupils are actively involved in mentoring younger pupils. Each term is full of inter-house competitions - including chess, poker, volleyball, and the incredibly popular annual House Song competition.
New pupils joining the Lower Third are given a mentor from the Upper Third. This relationship is often cited by our pupils as one of their most memorable experiences.

The main points of entry are Year 9 (13+) and 12 (16+). Boarding places are available from Year 9 (13+) upwards at the College and from Year 4 (8+) at Brighton College’s prep school at Handcross Park. Brighton accept day applications from overseas pupils whose parents are relocating to the UK. ISEB pre-test and school’s own exam. Offers are based on performance at assessment and interview.
